CSTO chief opines on probability of NATO invasion of Belarus, Russia
MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) - If one were to hypothetically imagine that NATO would invade Belarus and Russia, it would be a complete folly on the part of the North Atlantic Alliance, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said at a press conference, BelTA learned.
“We are closely following the situation in the Eastern European part of the CSTO area of responsibility. And we see the advancement of NATO's offensive infrastructure to the western borders of Belarus and Russia, and an increase in military activity. In general, we cannot exclude any scenarios at all given the geopolitical turbulence today,” Imangali Tasmagambetov said.
The CSTO chief recalled that Russia had made changes to its nuclear doctrine. He believes, potential adversaries cannot disregard the combat test of the hypersonic weapon Oreshnik, which has no analogues in the world.
“Therefore, if we hypothetically imagine that there might be an invasion through the western borders of Belarus and Russia, it would be a complete folly on the part of NATO,” Imangali Tasmagambetov is sure.
