Belstat: Women account for almost 40% of all researchers in Belarus
MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) - Women make up nearly 40% of the total number of researchers in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian National Statistical Committee Belstat.
The main forms of training for highly qualified scientific personnel are postgraduate studies and doctoral studies. According to the State Committee on Science and Technology, in 2025 the number of postgraduate students in Belarus was 4,400. A total of 753 people completed their postgraduate studies. Some 579 people are enrolled in doctoral programs and 132 people completed their doctoral studies.
According to the Higher Attestation Commission, 39 people became doctors of sciences, and 222 people became candidates of sciences in 2025.
In 2025, 28,100 people in 456 organizations were engaged in scientific research and development (27,400 people in 463 organizations in 2024). The structure of personnel engaged in scientific research and development has remained virtually unchanged in recent years: researchers account for 64.8%, technicians - 7.5%, support staff - 27.7%.
One-fifth of all researchers hold a scientific degree: 515 are doctors of sciences, and 2,720 are candidates of sciences. Of the total number of researchers, women account for 38.1% (22.3% of doctors of sciences and 40.8% of candidates of sciences). Young people under 29 (inclusive) make up 22.4% of the total number of researchers.
The professional structure of scientific personnel is dominated by specialists in engineering and natural sciences.
