Belarusian scientists, Russia’s Murmansk Oblast to step up cooperation

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the government of Russia’s Murmansk Oblast will soon prepare proposals on stepping up cooperation in science and technology. The possibilities were discussed as Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Karanik met with Governor of Russia’s Murmansk Oblast Andrey Chibis on 2 March, BelTA has learned.

Joint exploration of the Antarctic region, the use of R&D products and technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, including in the field of microelectronics and machine building, as well as industrial cooperation in the extraction of rare earth metals are the primary areas under consideration.
Vladimir Karanik said: “We can discuss how we can pool our efforts for the sake of exploring the northern reaches of our planet. We also have practical proposals considering the fact that the climate in Murmansk Oblast is rather harsh. I am talking about deliveries of special vehicles, machines and equipment designed and adapted to operate in low temperatures. Through communication we will be able to find contact points in various areas.”
