Belarusian Foreign Ministry staff, diplomats join commemoration campaign in WW2 memorial Khatyn
MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov took part in the Come and Bow campaign in the WW2 memorial complex Khatyn on the occasion of the day of remembrance of burned-down villages, BelTA learned from representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Top staff and other personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the diplomatic corps, who are accredited in Belarus, laid flowers at the Eternal Flame.
The participation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees in commemorative events has become a good tradition that symbolizes the unbreakable bond between generations, the memory and deep respect for the tragic past of the Belarusian nation.
Belarusian diplomats, representatives of the diaspora, and Belarus’ friends all over the world honor the memory of the Belarusian villages that were burned down together with their residents.
The Come and Bow campaign took place in the WW2 memorial complex Khatyn on 22 March. The day marked 83 years since the day of the Khatyn tragedy. As part of the commemoration campaign multiple ceremonies to lay flowers took place in the memorial complex throughout the day.
Khatyn’s fate was shared by at least 290 populated localities in Belarus. The criminal case opened by the Office of the Prosecutor General has confirmed that at least 12,868 villages were destroyed during the war.
