Belarus, Sri Lanka eager to develop air service

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) - Belarus and Sri Lanka have expressed mutual interest in launching direct flights between countries. This topic was among the key items on the agenda of the talks between Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development of Bimal Rathnayake during the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg, BelTA learned from the press service of the Transport and Communications Ministry of Belarus. 

Sri Lanka is one of the most popular tourist destinations. According to Bimal Rathnayake, about 10,000 Belarusian tourists visited the country in 2025. To strengthen tourism ties, he proposed launching regular flights.

The ministers explored the opportunities in transport cooperation, including training of transport specialists at Belarusian universities, ranging from degree programs to professional development courses.
