Belarus, Kazakhstan to step up interaction between universities

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Kazakhstan Aleksei Bogdanov met with Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Astana told BelTA.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation in the fields of higher education, science, and youth policy. The Belarusian ambassador and the Kazakh minister of science and higher education agreed to step up interaction between higher education institutions in organizing joint educational programs and academic mobility as well as to expand joint youth events. The sides paid special attention to the development of scientific and technical cooperation, including the implementation of joint projects fueled by grants and the establishment of bilateral scientific and educational centers.

The minister confirmed an invitation to visit Belarus in June 2026 as well as the organization of the 11th session of the scientific and educational consortium of universities of the two countries and a forum of rectors in Kazakhstan. Apart from that, an initiative to hold a Belarus-Kazakhstan women’s educational forum this year was discussed.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Kazakhstan were established on 16 September 1992. Embassies are open in both countries. Bilateral negotiations and conversations between the presidents of the two countries are regularly held, including on the platforms of integration organizations.

The legal framework of cooperation includes more than 80 international agreements. The fundamental document is the interstate Treaty on Social and Economic Cooperation until 2026. In terms of Belarus’ export Kazakhstan ranks among the most important trade partners of the Republic of Belarus, including among CIS countries. In 1996 the Belarusian-Kazakh intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was established and works. Sessions of the subcommission on promoting cooperation in industrial cooperation and mutual trade, of the working group on working out promising areas of cooperation in agriculture, and of the joint commission on international road transport are regularly held in a bilateral format. Coordination of scientific and technical cooperation proceeds within the framework of the Belarusian-Kazakh commission on scientific and technical cooperation. Sessions of the Belarus-Kazakhstan Business Cooperation Council are also held.
