Belarus’ deputy FM highlights importance of trade unions

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - The trade union movement is above all about a sense of solidarity, unity, and immense support, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta said at an event held in Minsk on 27 April to mark the 95th anniversary of the Belarusian Trade Union of Workers of State and Other Institutions, BelTA has learned.

“For me, it is above all a sense of solidarity, unity, immense support, and responsibility for the work we do,” said Igor Sekreta.

The deputy minister noted that he has been involved in trade union activities since the very first days of his career. “Today, we have gathered representatives of a wide range of professions, industries, and areas of responsibility. What unites us, especially in recent times, is very clearly expressed. It is a sense of responsibility for the country and for the work we do,” said Igor Sekreta. “The trade union organization supports people who find themselves in difficult situations. Over my thirty years of experience in various positions and organizations, I have seen countless examples of this.”

Deputy Taxes and Duties Minister Olga Starovoitova emphasized the reliability of the trade union as a social partner. “The tax service employs thousands of people, and 99% of them are members of the trade union. We have very close ties - support in organizing various events, cultural and sports projects. The trade union is a reliable social partner for us,” she said.

Yuliya Kapralova, a trade union member and mother of many children from Mogilev Oblast, shared how the organization helps her and her colleagues. “The support for mothers of many children is tremendous. For example, we went to an amusement park before 1 September. Moreover, as a parent, you don’t have to worry about where your children will spend the summer because the trade union takes care of that,” said Yuliya Kapralova.
