Marat Markov appointed culture minister of Belarus
MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - Marat Markov, who until now headed the Information Ministry, has been appointed Culture Minister of Belarus. This decision was made by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled the famous phrase that the most important of the arts is cinema. “I didn’t say it, but I absolutely support it. The fact that we have neglected cinema is completely unacceptable,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
“I was somewhat surprised when I learned that Marat Markov had requested the position of culture minister, but I welcomed the idea. With any luck, you will usher in a new era for cultural governance. I would only be glad. He is someone I have seen mature over time. I would only be glad,” the president stated.

The president pointed out that Marat Markov is already an experienced minister. “He is moving from one ministerial seat to a position that is more serious and carries greater responsibility, let's put it that way. It’s both responsible and serious, because his predecessors have not been able to work effectively. I believe Mr Markov is up to the task. There is no other alternative but to succeed, guys,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
