Lukashenko visits Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on Easter

SHKLOV DISTRICT, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the agrotown of Yevdokimovichi in Shklov District to celebrate Easter on 12 April, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian leader traditionally lit an Easter candle in the church and spoke with parishioners and clergy.

The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 2017 with funds from a patron from Shklov. Previously, on this site stood a wooden church of the Holy Prophet Elijah, built in 1841 and which existed until 1951.

The modern Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a cruciform building with four small domes at the intersections and a light drum in the center. On the outer side of the central crossing is a full-length icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, after whom the church in Yevdokimovichi is named. Icons of saints also adorn the roof vaults. There are eight bells on the wooden bell tower.

Among the church’s holy treasures are a reliquary containing fragments of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, as well as icons of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Seraphim of Sarov, and St. Sergius of Radonezh.
