DZERZHINSK DISTRICT, 21 August (BelTA) – While talking to employees of the Belarusian food company Agrokombinat Dzerzhinskiy on 21 August, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko touched upon the situation around the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said: “They are trying to write some statements now. I thought they wanted freedom. They were enthusiastic about the freedom that market provides. I am going to give them complete freedom and I already have. They have a troupe. They are free to go to America, stage performances, and earn money. If they are not welcome in America, well, that is market for you. They should go to Russia then and stage performances there. Full freedom to fly around and stage performances. We are not going to interfere. And market relations: they will be paid as much as they earn.”

The president added that the government subsidizes the sphere of culture, including theater collectives, but now there will be complete freedom and market relations. “We are going to organize what they wanted,” he added.
