Lukashenko: I am a beneficial president for Belarusians
MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media why he is a beneficial president for Belarusians, BelTA has learned.
“I am a beneficial president for you. Beneficial in the sense that I am not clinging to power. If anyone thinks otherwise, they are complete fools. I do not think about how to keep it. I have had more than enough of it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The head of state noted that he does not view power from the perspective of his own benefit, nor does he throw it away. “It is something the people entrusted to me. They said: go ahead, lead, take responsibility for the country and for us. A quiet, peaceful country. But contrary to everything and everyone, including my own words, I am not clinging to this power,” he emphasized. “If the majority of the people are dissatisfied, there will be election soon, you can elect a new president. I am not afraid of that, that is truly the case.” The Belarusian leader added that his demanding nature and harsh criticism regarding indiscipline and mismanagement stem from his responsibility for the country and its people. In this regard, he cited the example of livestock mortality. This issue is regularly raised at various meetings, and the head of state insists that it be addressed without compromise. “If calves die, there will be no meat, milk, or anything else. That means you are letting the country down, and heads will roll. I can no longer step away from this kind of policy. These are war times. And I do not want war,” Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.
