BREST, 22 June (BelTA) - Belarus will continue to take measures to further enhance the prestige of military service, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the 38th Brest Independent Guards Air Assault Brigade on 22 June, BelTA has learned.
“We are taking steps to further enhance the prestige of military service. We will do everything for this," the president assured. “We provided great benefits to those guys who have served in the army so that the man who served in the army a year and a half or two years would not say that he wasted these years. This is necessary to equalize the opportunities of those who served and those who chose not to interrupt education. “A soldier, an officer who gives something to his homeland, should be able to enjoy the same possibilities as those who did not serve in the army. In this respect, we will do everything from education to other life issues, as much as the economy allows us,” the head of state noted.

The state program to boost military towns in the country is underway, the president said. Thanks to the program, many military units have been upgraded. Among them is the 5th Special Operations Brigade, 103rd Air Assault Brigade, 19th and 120th Mechanized Brigades. “Work in these areas will be continued, including with state support,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
