Pakistan expresses desire to join BRICS
MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Pakistan would like to become a full member of BRICS and is counting on broad support for its candidacy within the group, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said in an interview with TASS, BelTA has learned.
“Pakistan is a natural partner for BRICS. Only one country opposes Pakistan’s accession to BRICS. No other country has objections to Pakistan joining the group. Pakistan is a member of the SCO, and India is as well. Therefore, Pakistan can and should be a BRICS member. All other countries, except India, have expressed a firm desire to see Pakistan as a member,” the diplomat said.
He expressed confidence that Pakistan’s accession to BRICS “would bring more benefits to the organization”. “Russia has always supported this. China supports it. South Africa supports it. Brazil supports it,” the ambassador noted.
