Lozovik: Legitimacy of power does not depend on recognition of election by other states

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) - The legitimacy of power does not depend on recognition or non-recognition of the election by other countries, Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik told reporters, BelTA has learned.

"The authorities elected by people in compliance with the Belarusian law and Constitution will be legitimate, with any assessment by international organizations or observer missions. But it would be good if the election is recognized by foreign organizations as this is one of the components for the more successful international relations for the President-elect,” said the CEC Secretary.

"If the election is recognized as democratic, then the relations with international organizations and other states will probably follow another scenario," he added.
