CIS: No official note yet on Moldova’s withdrawal
MOSCOW, 3 April (BelTA) - The CIS Executive Committee has not yet received formal notice of Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told the media at the CIS Economic Council in Moscow on 3 April, BelTA has learned.
“We are experiencing some difficulties, regarding Ukraine, and also Moldova, which has now declared its intention to leave the CIS. But we have not yet received an official note,” said Sergei Lebedev.
He noted that nine states are participating in today’s CIS Economic Council, and the ties between them are very close. “All the documents that underpin cooperation among CIS countries are now quite comprehensive. This has led to increased mutual trade, greater investment, and closer cooperation. For example, all nine countries have recorded positive GDP growth,” the secretary general said.
“The CIS has a future. We are currently working on documents outlining our path up to 2035. We are looking nine years ahead, planning how we will develop our relations and build them. So I am optimistic about the future of the CIS,” Sergei Lebedev said.
