MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) - Belarus’ experience in integrating modern facilities into the historical environment was presented at a meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly’s Permanent Commission on State Construction and Local Self-Government Experience in Almaty, the press service of the House of Representatives told BelTA.
The event was chaired by Valentin Semenyako, Chairman of the Standing Commission on State Building, Local Government, and Regulations of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. Member of the Permanent Commission Tatiana Lavrinovich also participated via video conference.
During the meeting, Valentin Semenyako noted Belarus’ systematic and thorough approach to preserving historical sites.
“The key aspects of development programs are universal, but the main challenge is to harmoniously balance residents’ needs for comfortable living with the preservation of historical centers. We solved this problem in Grodno,” he said. The city is implementing projects to restore landmark buildings, renovate a unique wooden building district preserved thanks to residents’ initiative, and improve public spaces.
Parliamentarians and experts also discussed preparations for a seminar dedicated to best practices of local self-government in CIS countries.
