Belarus’ MFA sees no readiness from Lithuania for serious talks

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) - Belarus' Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not yet see any concrete steps indicating that Lithuania is ready for serious dialogue, spokesman of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ruslan Varankov told BelTA, commenting on recent statements from Vilnius about potential contacts with Belarus.

“We have seen reports that Lithuania has chosen a candidate for possible engagement. However, we currently have no concrete or official information about who will represent Vilnius, what authority that person holds, or what substance such dialogue would have. This appears to be aimed primarily at a domestic audience, to show the Lithuanian public that something is happening on the Belarus track,” Ruslan Varankov said.

“For now, we see no tangible steps suggesting Lithuania is prepared for serious dialogue. Our position remains unchanged: we have always supported dialogue and remain open to it. But we look not to media gestures but to concrete and meaningful steps,” the ministry’s spokesman said.
