MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – On 25 February, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta met with Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy Thomas Greminger to exchange views on the most pressing issues of European security, BelTA learned from the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
The Belarusian diplomat expressed concern over the growing risks of militarization in the region, particularly the build-up of military capabilities by neighboring EU states and their withdrawal from a number of fundamental disarmament treaties, including the Ottawa Treaty on anti-personnel mines.
The parties agreed on the need to restore cooperation and dialogue between Belarus and Western states and discussed prospects for resuming security dialogue in Europe.
The systematic and constructive participation of experts from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy in the Minsk Conferences on Eurasian Security in 2023-2025 was noted in a positive light.
