Beijing blocks U.S. sanctions on five Chinese firms

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – The Chinese government has issued an injunction ordering domestic companies to ignore U.S. sanctions on domestic refiners linked to the Iranian oil trade, China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.

The ministry's injunction, relating to sanctions, states that the US measures “shall not be recognized, implemented, or complied with”. Beijing made this decision based on the national mechanism on countering improper extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The U.S. measures unlawfully restrict normal trade with third countries and breach international norms, the country’s commerce ministry said.

The United States had previously added five Chinese companies, including Hengli Petrochemical Co, to the sanctions list, freezing their assets and prohibiting transactions over alleged involvement in the Iranian oil trade and shipments.
