Iran crowned champion at Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics
TEHRAN, 26 November (BelTA - IRNA) - The Iranian freestyle and
Greco-Roman wrestling teams have claimed the championship titles at the
25th Summer Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.
Iran’s freestyle
wrestling team achieved remarkable success at the sporting event,
winning the championship title with a total of five medals, including
one gold, three silver, and one bronze.
Mohammad Siyahoushi
claimed the gold medal in the 57 kg weight category. Silver medals were
awarded to Keivan Rostamabadi (65 kg), Abolfazl Zohrevand (74 kg), and
Mohammad Ghamarpour (125 kg). Additionally, Erfan Sattari earned a
bronze medal in the 97 kg category.
In Greco-Roman wrestling,
Iranian athletes also performed exceptionally well, securing two gold
medals, one silver, and three bronze medals.
Gold medals were won
by Meisam Dezfouli (87 kg) and Abouzar Rabizadeh (97 kg). Mehdi Bakhshi
took home a silver medal in the 97 kg weight category. The bronze
medals were awarded to Abolfazl Abolvafaei (60 kg), Mohammad Zeratpisheh
(77 kg), and Mohammadreza Shabani (130 kg).
As a result, Iran’s
Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams won the team championship
titles with a total of 6 and 5 medals, respectively.
Over 3,000 athletes from more than 70 countries are competing for medals in 21 sports.
The 25th edition of the Deaflympics is being held in Tokyo, Japan, from November 15 to 26, 2025.
This
edition commemorates 101 years since the inaugural Summer Deaflympics,
which took place in Paris in 1924. In the previous edition held in
Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Ukraine topped the medal table, followed by the
USA and the Republic of Korea in second and third place, respectively.
