Jewish folk music festival in Minsk

Klezmer music, a Jewish musical tradition that has received recognition all over the world, has returned to Belarus. This musical tradition emerged in Eastern Europe as a combination of folk music of all nations who lived there and was originally played at weddings. Thanks to Jewish immigrants it spread to the US and other countries.

The festival in Minsk brought together more than a dozen musicians and bands from the US, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, and Austria, who performed traditional klezmer music.

Free concerts of the festival took place at 16 Oktyabrskaya Street in Minsk on 7-8 November. The festival also featured master classes, dancing lessons, exhibitions, and a food court. All events of the festival were dedicated to klezmer music and Jewish culture.
