MOSCOW, 27 April (BelTA) – Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Alexei Shevtsov highlighted Belarus’ role in maintaining global food security, BelTA has learned.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the international conference “Contours of a New Collective Security Architecture: Current Issues of Information and Analytical Partnership within the CSTO,” held in Moscow, Alexei Shevtsov noted that the crisis in the Middle East and the ensuing global energy crisis had a negative impact on fertilizer production, which in turn is affecting global food security.

“In this context, for example, countries like the Republic of Belarus, which is one of the world’s leading producers of potash fertilizers with, I believe, roughly 20% of the global market, can leverage its cooperation with Russia by using our transport and logistics infrastructure to export its products. Not just potash fertilizers, but also machinery. I know that Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko keeps a close eye on this issue, and work on diversifying and expanding exports is constantly under discussion. It involves not only economic operators, but also officials and diplomats, absolutely everyone,” said the deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council.
