PM identifies three indicators for assessing regional development

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – Every territory should develop as a unified socio-economic complex, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said as he addressed the Belarusian People’s Congress in Minsk on 19 December, BelTA has learned.
“Every territory should develop as a unified socio-economic complex within its region, involving all communities and resources in the growth processes. This means each region will become a place where people want to live: with available jobs, quality infrastructure, and equal opportunities,” Aleksandr Turchin noted.

For Brest Oblast and Gomel Oblast, the primary focus is on developing the Pripyat Polesie. For other territories, the focus areas include the Vitebsk Poozerye, the southeastern districts of the Mogilev Oblast, and the Neman River region in Grodno Oblast. In Minsk Oblast, the Minsk Industrial Belt will serve as such a growth point.

“The evaluation of regional development is comprehensive. We propose three fundamental indicators: growth in real wages, increase in investments, and reduction of debt burden on the budget,” Aleksandr Turchin said.
