MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Housing availability in Belarus has grown 1.5 times over three decades, the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry told BelTA.
On 23 April, an interdepartmental commission chaired by Deputy Economy Minister Maria Mazhinskaya reviewed the implementation of the state programs Comfortable Housing and Favorable Environment, Housing Construction, Belarusian Forest, and Public Finance Management and Financial Market Regulation over the past five-year period.
The deputy economy minister noted that the activities under the state programs have the key goal – to improve people’s quality of life. “Over the past five years, about 21.7 million square meters of housing have been built, including over 5.4 million square meters with state support and about 1.3 million square meters of rental housing. As a result, housing availability per capita has reached 30.7 square meters. This is 1.5 times higher than three decades ago and one of the best results in the CIS. But comfort is not only about square meters. Clean water, warm homes, and well-maintained yards are equally important. During this period, over 1,000 iron removal plants were put into operation, and 93 water intake wells were built. More than 500 boiler houses have been upgraded, and over 1,900km of heating networks have been renewed. About 10,800 adjacent areas of apartment buildings have been given a new look. Behind these numbers are real positive changes in the lives of Belarusians,” Maria Mazhinskaya emphasized.
