CIS Economic Council meets in Moscow
MOSCOW, 3 April (BelTA) - The CIS Economic Council convened for a meeting in Moscow on 3 April. The Belarusian side was headed by Special Representative of the Republic of Belarus for Integration Cooperation within the CIS, Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov, BelTA has learned.
The meeting addressed a wide range of issues related to economic cooperation among CIS member states. In particular, the council discussed the CIS Fair regulation. Under this regulation trade events will be held annually in various cities of CIS countries, inviting craftsmen and farmers from across the Eurasian region. The initiative was supported by nearly all CIS states. The event is intended to serve as an effective tool for cooperation, help to foster favorable environment for economic and cultural cooperation among CIS members, strengthen business and trade ties, and enhance the CIS international status.
The council members heard a progress report on the CIS interstate program for cooperation among in geodesy, cartography, spatial data, geographic information technologies, Earth remote sensing, cadastral registration and property rights registration. Under this program the CIS member states have made a geoportal for their spatial data infrastructure.
The council named the winners of the 2025 CIS Quality Awards for product and service quality. Ten companies won the competition: three from Belarus, four from Russia, and one each from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Fifteen organizations received diplomas: two from Belarus, three from Kazakhstan, one from Kyrgyzstan, three from Russia, one from Tajikistan, and five from Uzbekistan.

The meeting also approved the guidelines for CIS cooperation in the management of radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuel and decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities for the period up to 2030. Implementation of these guidelines will assist relevant agencies of CIS states in shaping and improving national policies, concepts and strategies for radioactive waste management, carrying out specific projects to bring nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities to a safe condition, and will contribute to the development of national nuclear energy.
The council reviewed the concepts for digital transformation of the mining and metallurgical industries of the CIS member states and an action plan for their implementation. This is expected to help address a range of pressing tasks related to informatization, automation and digital management of these industries. The documents will be submitted for consideration by the CIS Heads of Government Council.
The heads of government will also review a draft interstate radio navigation program of the CIS member states for 2026-2030. The program aims to deepen cooperation in navigation activities through large-scale commercial use of services based on radio navigation systems and their functional supplements.
In addition, the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy has been granted the status of the CIS base organization for training and professional development of specialists and researchers in the field of aquaculture.
The next meeting of the CIS Economic Council will be held in Moscow in June 2026.
