Brest Oblast’s trade with Vietnam 2.3 times up over five years

BREST, 27 April (BelTA) – Trade turnover between Brest Oblast and Vietnam grew by 2.3 times over the past five years. This figure was mentioned at a meeting between Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik and a delegation from the Vietnamese province of Lao Cai, BelTA has learned.

Piotr Parkhomchik emphasized that Belarus takes great interest in Vietnam, which has a rich history, culture, and ancient traditions. “Trade turnover between Brest Oblast and Vietnam increased by 32% in 2025. The beginning of this year has also shown positive dynamics: in the first two months trade turnover grew by 32%. And over the course of five years it increased by a total of 2.3 times,” the chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee said.
Brest Oblast and Lao Cai Province have maintained sister-city relations since 2017. The delegation has come to take part in the International Forum of Business Contacts, which will take place in Brest on 28-29 April. “The visit testifies to mutual interest between our countries in many areas, primarily in the economic sphere,” Piotr Parkhomchik emphasized. The Belarusian region and the Vietnamese one are expected to sign a cooperation program for 2026-2028.

“For many years we have been steadily increasing efforts for more intensive interaction and view this visit as a new growth point for our relations. Brest Oblast is ready to share its many years of experience in agriculture based on using modern production facilities, high-quality raw materials, and advanced technologies. Our food products, especially dairy products, meat and fish products, are well known around the world, including in Asia. Our region produces and is ready to export a wide range of industrial goods: accumulators, equipment and materials for road marking, automotive components, and light industry products,” Piotr Parkhomchik listed some areas for cooperation.

The delegation is headed by a representative of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Lao Cai Province Party Committee Duong Quoc Huy. “For us cross-border economy, high-tech agriculture, processing industry, and logistics are particularly important matters. We are also interested in the matter of digital transformation. There is no free economic zone in our province. Your experience is of interest to us,” he said.
Apart from that, the sides see mutual interest in joint work in the fields of education, healthcare, culture, and tourism.

The head of the Vietnamese delegation invited representatives of Brest Oblast to pay a return official visit to Lao Cai Province.
