MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – Belarusian and Egyptian companies have agreed to expand partnerships during the Belarus-Egypt Business Forum in Minsk on 7 May, BelTA has learned.
During the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on 6 May, the parties addressed outstanding issues in bilateral cooperation. On 7 May, a business forum is underway, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to directly explore potential growth areas.
“Our cooperation with the Egyptian side is quite intensive. Belarus exports tractors and other machinery, dairy products, wood products, and rolled steel. These are our primary export items. As for imports from Egypt to Belarus, they mainly consist of fruit, spices, and chemical products,” Belarusian Deputy Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Oleg Dikun said.
According to him, the Egyptian side has shown great interest in Belarusian whole milk products and mechanical engineering goods. “We will focus on this areas,” the deputy minister stressed.
A number of agreements were signed during the business forum. In particular, an agreement on the supply of fruit products to Belarus and an agreement on the supply of tractors to Egypt.
Deputy Chairwoman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Yelena Malinovskaya noted that an agreement between the BelCCI and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce has been in effect for several decades. “During this time, we have held numerous events, including those with the participation of heads of state at the highest and high levels,” she said. “Signing of agreements and contracts takes place at almost all our events, and new arrangements are made. Our expectations are high: Belarusian businesses have shown enormous interest. More than 100 companies registered to participate in the forum literally within the first week after the event was announced. This shows that there are things to discuss and agree on.”
During the opening of the forum, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh emphasized that the business communities of the two countries gathered at this event to strengthen economic partnership between the states and create a solid foundation for interaction between business circles in key industries. “I am convinced that the private sector remains the main driver of growth, investment, and job creation,” he noted. “The partnership between Egypt and Belarus, built on mutual trust and a shared modernization agenda, will unlock new opportunities for businesses in both countries.”
Around 150 representatives of Belarusian and Egyptian businesses are taking part in the event. They have gathered in Minsk to present their products and discuss the implementation of joint projects.
The Egyptian delegation, led by Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, is being on a visit to Belarus from 4 to 8 May.
