Belarus sows 50% of early spring crop areas

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus has sown 50% of the areas designated for early spring crops, the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

“According to operational data as of 27 April 2026, early spring crops have been sown on an area of 1,148,000 hectares, which accounts for 50% of the total sowing area of 2,294,000 hectares,” the press service said.

The regional breakdown is the following: Grodno Oblast – 194,000 hectares (58% of planned areas); Brest Oblast – 226,000 hectares (54%); Vitebsk Oblast – 170,000 hectares (53%); Mogilev Oblast – 163,000 hectares (50%); Minsk Oblast – 235,000 hectares (47%); Gomel Oblast – 160,000 hectares (40%).

Sowing of flax fiber has been carried out in all regions on an area of 43,000 hectares, which is 98% of the plan of 44,000 hectares.

Corn has been sown in all regions of the country on a total area of 258,000 hectares, accounting for 20% of the plan of 1.283 million hectares. 

Sowing of spring rapeseed has been carried out in all regions on an area of 32,000 hectares, which is 81% of the plan of 40,000 hectares. Sugar beets have been sown on an area of more than 104,000 hectares, representing 97% of the planned area of 106,000 hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for the 2026 spring sowing have been stockpiled in the amount of 769,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which is 92% of the plan. Organic fertilizers for spring sowing have been applied in the amount of 38 million tonnes, which is 70% of the amount transported to the fields.

Potatoes have been planted on an area of more than 3,000 hectares, which is 16% of the plan of 22,000 hectares.
