Belarus' export down 11% to $5.6bn in January-February 2020

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – In January-February 2020, Belarus' export of merchandise and services dropped by 11% year-on-year to $5.566 billion, BelTA learned from the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

In January-February, Belarus' foreign trade totaled $10.706 billion, down by 11.5% over the same period of 2019. Import came at $5.14 billion (down by 12.1%). Surplus of foreign trade in goods and services equaled $425.1 million. In January-February 2019, the surplus was at $405 million.

Belarus' merchandise trade went down by 15% to $8.549 billion. Merchandise export declined by 15.7% to $4.159 billion, with merchandise import down by 14.3% to $4.39 billion. Deficit totaled $230.7 million. In January-February 2019, Belarus reported a deficit of $190 million.

Foreign trade in services increased by 5.3% year-on-year and reached $2.157 billion. Export of services amounted to $1.406 billion (up by 6.4%), with import at $750.7 million (3.2% up). Surplus of foreign trade in services equaled $655.8 million, from $595 million in January-February 2019.
