Belarus announces 2026 renewable energy quotas
MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - Belarus has set quotas for the development of renewable energy for 2026, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry of Belarus.
Belarus has established quotas for the construction of facilities using renewable energy sources, which are to be allocated in 2026. The corresponding decision was made on 17 April 2026, at a meeting of the National Interdepartmental Commission.
The total volume of quotas will amount to 38.747 MW. They have been established in accordance with the current procedure approved by Resolution No. 662 of the Council of Ministers of 6 August 2015.
The allocation includes 18.186 MW for wind energy, 10 MW - biogas, 5 MW - wood fuel and other types of biomass, and 4.861 MW - solar energy. The quota for hydropower will amount to 0.7 MW.
The established volumes have been communicated by the Energy Ministry to the regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee. At this stage, work is being organized locally with potential investors, along with the development of projects to set up new generation facilities running on renewable energy sources.
The establishment of quotas is aimed at ensuring the phased development of green generation, taking into account the balance of the energy system and economic feasibility, and attracting investment into the sector. The planned projects will improve the efficiency of using local fuel and energy resources and ensure further diversification of energy sources.
