About half of sugar beet area sown in Belarus

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – About half of the area designated for sugar beets has been sown in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“According to operational data as of 13 April 2026, a total of 639,000 hectares of spring crops have been sown in the country, which represents 28% of the total sowing area of 2.295 million hectares,” the press service said.

The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast – 138,000 hectares, or 33% of the planned area; Vitebsk Oblast – 76,000 hectares (24% of the plan); Gomel Oblast – 100,000 hectares (25% of the plan); Grodno Oblast – 129,000 hectares (39% of the plan); Minsk Oblast – 113,000 hectares (23% of the plan); Mogilev Oblast – 83,000 hectares (25% of the plan).

Fiber flax has been sown in all regions across an area of 22,000 hectares, which is 45% of the plan of 50,000 hectares.

Sugar beets have been sown on an area exceeding 53,000 hectares, which is 49% of the planned area of 106,000 hectares.

Moisture closure [harrowing to retain soil moisture] has been carried out on 1.21 million hectares, or 88% of the plan of 1.375 million hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) accumulated for the 2026 spring sowing amount to 713,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which is 85% of the plan.

Organic fertilizers applied for spring sowing total 31 million tonnes, representing 63% of the amount transported to the fields.
