Vasilisa Marzaliuk 5th at European Wrestling Championships in Poland

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Vasilisa Marzaliuk of Belarus placed fifth in the women's 76kg category event at the 2021 European Wrestling Championships in Warsaw, Poland, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian athlete, who qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Games in March, defeated Norway's Iselin Maria Moen Solheim 5-4 and Anastasia Shustova of Ukraine 11-5. The Belarusian lost to Russia's Natalya Vorobieva 3-6 in the semifinal and to Germany's Aline Rotter Focken 0-4 in the bronze-medal bout. The other bronze went to Cynthia Vescan of France. The European champion title was secured by Estonia's Epp Mae. Russia's Natalya Vorobieva took silver.

Yulia Pisarenko of Belarus also placed fifth in the 59kg category. Gold went to Bilyana Dubova of Bulgaria. Russia's Veronika Chumikova clinched silver. Bronze medals were collected by Katerina Zhydachevska of Romania nad Anastasia Nichita of Moldova.

Katerina Pichkovskaya of Belarus finished fifth in the 55kg category. Stalvira Orshush of Russia claimed the champion title. Silver went to Roksana Zasina of Poland. Bronze medals were collected by Andreea Ana of Romania and Khristina Demko of Ukraine.

In the 68kg category Hanna Sadchanka of Belarus lost to Ukraine's Alina Berezhna of Ukraine in the repechage 0-6. Her opponent clinched bronze. The other bronze went to Adela Hanzlickova of the Czech Republic. Gold was secured by France's Koumba Larroque. Silver was collected by Russia's Khanum Velieva.

Natalya Varakina of Belarus lost in the 50kg qualification to Romania's Alina Vuc 1-12. Bronze medals went to Poland's Anna Lukasiak and Russia's Ekaterina Poleshchuk. Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan won gold. Silver went to Miglena Georgieva of Bulgaria.

Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus will compete for gold in the 57kg category on 23 April. Belarus' Veronika Ivanova will take to the repechage in the 62kg category.
