Ukrainian biathlete: Raubichi has comfortable facilities for athletes

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - The Raubichi Winter Olympic Center has comfortable facilities for athletes, Ukrainian biathlete Dmytro Pidruchnyi told the media during the IBU Open European Championship in Raubichi, BelTA hes learned.

“The competition in Raubichi is tight, there are strong athletes. Many of the biathletes who did not participate in the World Championships were specially prepared for the European competitions,” Dmytro Pidruchnyi said. “With the warm weather the organizers prepared the slope and created comfortable conditions for athletes. I didn't even believe it was possible to hold the European Championships. The organization is as good as at the World Cup.”

Dmytro Pidruchnyi claimed bronze in the Men Super Sprint Final at the IBU Open European Championship in Raubichi. He collected gold in pursuit at the IBU World Championships 2019 and came in 7th in the Mixed Relay at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

2020 IBU Open European Championship brought together about 270 athletes and 35 teams.

As it has been reported, Belarus' Sergei Bocharnikov won gold in the Men Super Sprint Final in Raubichi on 26 February.

The competitions will continue on 27 February with the Single Mixed Relay (W+M) and 4x6 Mixed Relay. The Men 10 km Sprint and Women 7.5 km Sprint are scheduled for 29 February. The European championships will wrap up with the Men 12.5 km Pursuit and Women 10 km Pursuit on 1 March.

All in all, the event features 35 teams comprising about 270 athletes.

The 2020 IBU Open European Biathlon Championships were relocated from Estonia's Otepaa to Raubichi due to the warm weather in Estonia. The Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry and representatives of the Raubichi sports center expressed their readiness to host the competitions.
