MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The 2021 UEFA Women's European Championship has been postponed to 2022. The UEFA Executive Committee took the corresponding decision during a video conference on 23 April, BelTA has learned.
The postponed UEFA Women's EURO 2021 will be played in England from 6 to 31 July 2022. The tournament was initially due to take place in summer 2021, but the decision was taken to move it in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Belarusian women's national team coached by Yuri Maleyev had to play the Women's EURO 2021 qualifier against Northern Ireland in Minsk on 14 April. In Group C Belarus secured a 6-0 win against Faroe Islands in Borisov and lost 1-7 to Norway and 0-1 to Wales. The Group C standings are as follows: Norway – 12 points (four matches), Wales – 8 (4), Belarus – 3 (3), Northern Ireland – 2 (4), Faroe Islands – 0 (3).
The UEFA Executive Committee also recommended the national associations to complete top domestic competitions so that EURO berths were distributed on sporting merit.
