UEFA Champions League new season to kick off 8 August

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – The new season of the UEFA Champions League will kick off with a preliminary round, a mini-tournament featuring four teams, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the tournament will be four UEFA lowest-ranked nations. San Marino will face Northern Ireland, and Andorra will take on Kosovo in the semifinals of the preliminary round on 8 August. The final is scheduled for 11 August. The preliminary round winners will enter the first qualifying round, which will also feature Belarusian champion Dinamo Brest. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the UEFA Executive Committee has decided that the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and the Europa League will consist of one-off ties. The Champions League playoff round will consist of two legs. The first qualifying round will take place on 18-19 August, the second one – on 25-26 August, the third one – on 15-16 September, the playoff round – 22-23 and 29-30 September. The group stage will start on 20 October to end on 9 December.

Belarus will be represented in the Europa League by Dinamo Minsk, BATE Borisov and Shakhtyor Soligorsk. The preliminary round will open on 20 August. The first qualifying round will take place on 27 August, the second one – on 17 September, the third one – on 24 September, the playoff – on 1 October. The group stage is scheduled for 22 October – 10 December.

This season's Champions League and Europa League competitions will be completed in August with 'final eight' tournaments. The Champions League matches will be played in Lisbon, Portugal on 12-23 August. The Europa League matches will be played in the German cities of Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Dusseldorf, and Cologne on 10-21 August.
