Tokyo Olympics tennis draw: Sabalenka to start against Linette

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – The Olympic Games Tennis Event draw took place in Tokyo on 21 July, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' world number 3 Aryna Sabalenka will open her Games campaign against Poland's world number 45 Magda Linette. If the Belarusian wins, she will next play either France's Caroline Garcia, ranked 73 in the world, or Croatia's world number 47 Donna Vekic.

In the men's event Belarus' world number 66 Ilya Ivashka will face France's world number 18 Gael Monfils. Belarus' world number 79 Egor Gerasimov will take on France's world number 102 Gilles Simon. In the men's doubles opener Ilya Ivashka and Egor Gerasimov will play Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus from New Zealand.

The Olympic Games Tennis Event will take place in the Ariake Tennis Park from 24 July to 1 August.

The 2016 Olympic Games Tennis Event in Rio de Janeiro was won by Andy Murray of the UK (men) and Monica Puig of Puerto Rico (women). Spanish players Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez triumphed in the men's doubles event. Russian players Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina won the women's doubles event. The gold medal in the mixed event was collected by Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock of the United States.
