Three Belarusians victorious at French Open start

MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Three Belarusian tennis players went off to a good start at the French Open in France, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' world number 4 Aryna Sabalenka saw off Croatia's world number 144 Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3. The Belarusian will next face Belarus' world number 103 Aliaksandra Sasnovich who fought past France's world number 307 Diane Parry 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 16, solved Russia's world number 40 Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. The Belarusian will next play Denmark's world number 90 Clara Tauson.

Belarus' world number 138 Olga Govortsova lost to Russia's world number 1091 Elena Vesnina 1-6, 0-6. belarus' world number 78 Egor Gerasimov lost to France's world number 177 Enzo Couacaud 6-7 (3-7), 4-6, 3-6.

The second Grand Slam tournament of the season will be over in Paris on 13 June. The total prize money at Roland Garros for 2021 comes in at €34.3 million. The winner in Paris men's and women's singles will receive €1.4 million each.
