Thomas Bach reelected as IOC president

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach has been reelected for the second four-year term. The decision was taken at the 137th IOC Session on 10 March, TASS reports.

Thomas Bach was the only candidate for the post of the head of the organization. He received 93 yes and 1 no votes from the 94 valid votes.

His second term as IOC President will start immediately after the Olympic Games in Tokyo which are due to take place from 23 July to 8 August.

Thomas Bach is 67 years old. He has headed the IOC since 2013. Thomas Bach won gold with the German foil fencing team at the Olympic Games Montreal 1976. In 1991, he became an IOC Member and sat on the IOC Executive Board between 1996 and 2000. He served as IOC Vice-President from 2000.
