MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – The final stage of the national junior biathlon competition Snow Sniper for the prizes of the President's Sport Club has kicked off at the Raubichi winter sports center, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the tournament are 168 young athletes who do not do biathlon and cross-country skiing professionally. Before the start of the competitions Anton Smolski, a silver medalist of the Beijing Olympics, addressed the finalists with a welcoming speech. The leader of the men's national team noted that he had watched the training of young biathletes the day before and was impressed. He also admitted that he perfectly understood the excitement of the participants, since he himself felt the same before every tournament.
“There is a cool atmosphere in the stands, I barely got to the stadium, because there are a lot of fans - maybe more than at the recent stage of the Commonwealth Cup. I wish young biathletes accurate shooting, good pace and excellent results, I want them to do well. They are at the beginning of their journey, and I want these competitions to become a springboard for their career in professional sports. This is an important tournament, it was held when I myself was still a child. I remember well how I competed at the school stage of the Snow Sniper. Unfortunately, I did not reach the national final, because there were a lot of talented guys,” Anton Smolski said.
