Sasnovich out of Australian Open

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 94 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 5-7 to world number 119 Greet Minnen of Belgium in the first round of the 2020 Australian Open on 21 January, BelTA has learned.

The match lasted for two hours and 35 minutes. The Belgian player will next face Kazakhstan's world number 26 Elena Rybakina.

Belarus' world number 12 Aryna Sabalenka will open against Spain's world number 54 Carla Suarez Navarro.

In the men's event Belarus' Egor Gerasimov (98) will play Norway's world number 48 Casper Ruud. Ilya Ivashka (149) came through the qualifying to secure a first-round berth against world number 122 Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

The 2020 Australian Open, with the total prize money making up $71 million, will be over on 2 February.
