MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 13 Aryna Sabalenka has secured the first final spot at the Qatar Total Open with a stellar 6-4, 6-3 victory over world number 46 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in one hour 15 minutes, BelTA has learned.
In the Doha opener Aryna Sabalenka outlasted Estonia's world number 22 Anett Kontaveit 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Then, she needed just 55 minutes to see off Greece's world number 20 Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-0. In the quarterfinal Aryna Sabalenka fought through Zheng Saisai of China (World No.37) 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
In the final the Belarusian will face either WTA World No.1 Ashleigh Barty of Australia or Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.
Aryna Sabalenka and Belgium's Elise Mertens won the doubles opener against Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States and Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 6-7, 6-2, 10-7. The Belarusian-Belgian tandem lost 6-4, 1-6, 4-10 to Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko for the spot in the semifinal.
