MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka has completed the year 2019 in the 11th place in the WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian number one scored 3,120 points in 2019. In the outgoing season 21-year-old Aryna Sabalenka won three WTA tournaments in the singles events, including the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai. Besides, Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens of Belgium won their first Grand Slam title at the US Open in New York. Former world number one Victoria Azarenka is currently 50th, Aliaksandra Sasnovich goes 62nd, Olga Govortsova – 192nd, and Vera Lapko - 324th.
Ashleigh Barty of Australia with the total of 7,851 points topped the final WTA rankings in 2019. Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, with 5,940 points, placed second. Naomi Osaka of Japan scored 5,496 points to finish third.
Spain's Rafael Nadal topped the final ATP rankings of 2019 with the total of 9,985 points. He was followed by Serbia's Novak Djokovic (9,145) and Roger Federer of Switzerland (6,590 points). Egor Gerasimov of Belarus placed 98th, Ilya Ivashka – 131st and Uladzimir Ignatik 309th.
