MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Goalkeeper of the Russian team Sergei Bobrovsky is the best player of the entire ice hockey world championship, BelTA learned from the Russian team's forward Alexander Ovechkin after the team's victory in the 2014 IIHF WM semifinals.
“A goalkeeper is more than half a team. Our goalkeeper is the best player of the entire tournament hands down. For a reason he is called the best player in the National Hockey League. Regardless of our team's performance Bobrovsky always does his best,” noted Alexander Ovechkin.
Today the Russian team confidently defeated the Swedish team 3:1. The end of the game was very nervous, with clashes between players emerging all the time. “It was all about emotions. We were ahead in the score. Therefore, the Swedish team tried to unbalance us but the game is now over,” stressed Alexander Ovechkin.
The player mentioned the slightly confused start of the game as the Russian team let the other one score in the first minute of the game. “We made some errors due to anxiety. Our team is young, for many it was the first game for a spot in the world championship's finals,” said the forward.
Alexander Ovechkin spoke about how he was feeling after injuring his knee earlier. “I felt normal today. Not 100%, certainly, but at any time you have to be prepared for anything,” he said.
Alexander Ovechkin's partner forward Viktor Tikhonov remarked that it was Sergei Bobrovsky's unbelievable save in the second period that was the key moment of the game. “Without our goalkeeper the game would have continued into overtime,” said Viktor Tikhonov. “Sergei Bobrovsky is pulling the team, he is the best player of the championship”.
