MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Russia's Evgeniya Pavlova and Matvey Eliseev won the Pursuit race to secure the World Team Challenge 2020 title in Ruhpolding, Germany, BelTA has learned.
The Russian duo clocked 33:06.4 with two penalties. Germany's Franziska Preuss and Simon Schempp finished second. They made three penalties and finished 7.1 seconds behind the winners.
A second German team of Denise Herrmann and Benedikt Doll took third place, 25.1 seconds back (four penalties) in a photo-finish over the Italian team of Dorothea Wierer and Lukas Hofer, 25.2 seconds back and four penalties.
The Belarusian team of Dzinara Alimbekava and Anton Smolski finished eighth, 2:14.7 back with eight penalties. The team also finished eighth in the Mass Start, with seven penalties, 1:50.1 behind the winning team of Russia. Evgeniya Pavlova and Matvey Eliseev made three penalties and won the event in 33:15.3. Second was the German team of Franziska Preuss and Simon Schempp, 18.2 seconds back. Third went to Austria's Julian Eberhard and Lisa Theresa Hauser, with eight penalties, 50.2 seconds back.
Ukraine's Dmytro Pidruchnyi topped Italy's Dorothea Wierer in the shootout event. Third was Lena Haecki of Switzerland. Belarus' Dzinara Alimbekava finished sixth.
