Russia names team for 2019 European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk

MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – Pyeongchang Olympic champion Alina Zagitova has made part of the Russian national team at the European Figure Skating Championships due in Minsk on 21-27 January 2019, BelTA has learned.

The Russian team roster was named following the national competitions in Saransk. Competing in the ladies' alongside with Alina Zagitova will be Stanislava Konstantinova and Sofia Samodurova. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and two-time world and European champion Evgeniya Medvedeva will be substitutes.

However, neither winner of the Russian championship Anna Shcherbakova nor medal winners of the championship Alexandra Trusova and Alena Kostornaia will take part in the Minsk event as they are not yet eligible to compete at senior events.

Russia will field Maxim Kovtun, Mikhail Kolyada, Alexander Samarin for the men's event; Evgenia Tarasova, Vladimir Morozov, Natalia Zabiyako, Alexander Enbert, Alexandra Boikova and Dmitry Kozlovsky for ice dancing competition.

Russian pairs will include Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, Aleksandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin, Sofia Evdokimova and Egor Bazin.

The Belarusian team will comprise Anna Kublikova and Yuri Gulitsky in pairs, and Yakov Zenko in the men's.

Taking part in the 111th edition of the European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk will be more than 100 athletes.

The all-event packages will range from Br100 to Br250. The cost of single-event tickets, including training sessions will vary between Br5 to Br50.

The opening ceremony of the 2019 European Figure Skating Championships is scheduled for 23 January. The competitions will be held through 26 January. Official training sessions are slated for 21-22 January. A gala concert featuring winners and medalists will wrap up the competitions on 27 January.
