MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Aleksandr Riabushenko, who finished in fourth in Men's Road Race at the 2nd European Games, believes that stress played its part in his result, BelTA has learned.
“Probably, stress played its part,” the athlete said. He added that he was hoping for a medal.
The fate of the medals was decided in the last 200 meters. “All started to sprint at one time. I was on the downwind, with the wind blowing from the left side. It just happened,” Aleksandr Riabushenko said.
The race was difficult, but it was very cool to cycle at home, he said.
With regard to the plans for July, Aleksandr Riabushenko said he will be training for the second half of the season. “I will compete in a marathon race in Italy and then will be training for Spain,” he said.
As BelTA reported earlier, the Belarusian cyclists did not make it to the podium in the Men's Road Race at the 2nd European Games on 23 June. Throughout the race Belarusian Aleksandr Riabushenko had a chance to finish in top three but did not luck out in the last meters and remained in the fourth position. Italian Davide Ballerini captured gold as he covered 180km through the streets of Minsk in 4:10.04. Silver went to Estonian Alo Jakin, bronze to Daniel Auer of Austria.
