MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Polina Golovina has succeeded George Katulin as the secretary general of Belarus' National Olympic Committee. The appointment was made at a meeting of the NOC Executive Committee, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.
Polina Golovina's candidacy was put forward by the head of state, President of the National Olympic Committee Aleksandr Lukashenko. George Katulin served as the secretary general from 2017 to 2019. First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Viktor Lukashenko said that George Katulin will continue to actively participate in the work of the NOC and share his experience.
Polina Golovina said that she will place a particular emphasis on preserving the legacy and achievements of the National Olympic Committee. “On my part, I will make every effort to keep our Olympic movement in sync with modern trends,” she said.
The main responsibilities of the secretary general are to ensure the international activities of Belarus' National Olympic Committee and to maintain cooperation with the International Olympic Committee, the European Olympic Committees, the Association of National Olympic Committees, international sports federations and other organizations within the Olympic movement.
In 2012, Polina Golovina graduated from Minsk State Linguistic University as a specialist in the linguistic support in intercultural communication and public relations. She has a good command of English and German and worked as the secretary general of the Belarus Sailing Federation since 2016.
