Plans to deploy onsite medical teams during 2nd European Games Minsk 2019

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – Dedicated onsite medical care teams will be deployed for the duration of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. The information was released by Irina Kireyeva, Deputy Head of the Central Office, Head of the Medical Expert Evaluation Office of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry, during a press conference held on 12 February to discuss barrier-free environment, medical aid, and smoking prohibition in anticipation of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, apart from stationary healthcare institutions spectators and participants of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 will be able to seek medical aid from mobile medical response teams. Some teams will cater to athletes while other teams will cater to spectators. The teams will include doctors and nurses, sport doctors, and volunteers. English-speaking students of medical universities will work as the volunteers.

There are also plans to invite medics from the regions for the duration of the games.

Apart from that, new ambulance cars are being acquired. As many as 40 ambulance cars have already been bought and another eight will be bought soon. “We will be able to handle any medical problems by the time the 2nd European Games begin,” added Irina Kireyeva.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
