MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – There was intense rivalry at the IBU Open European Championships, some teams featured countries' strongest biathletes, senior coach of Team Kazakhstan Nikolai Vydrin told BelTA on 1 March.
“It takes a lot of effort to put up a good track in such weather. However, Belarus did a great job. Raubichi welcomed both young and experienced biathletes. A lot of teams brought their strongest members. Ukraine, Russia, Norway, Germany –there are no weak participants here. There is fierce rivalry in all the races,” Nikolai Vydrin said. “Such events are crucial for the development of biathlon. I am also pleased with the festive atmosphere at the competitions that evokes great mood here,” he noted. Nikolai Vydrin added that Belarus boasts good traditions of biathlon.
The championships wrapped up on 1 March. All in all, the IBU Open European Championships featured 35 teams comprising about 270 athletes.
The Belarusian team scored three gold medals thanks to Elena Kruchinkina's success in the 10km pursuit and Sergei Bocharnikov's wins in the super sprint and 12.5km pursuit. Belarus' Iryna Kryuko sealed bronze in the 7.5km sprint.
