Olympic Sports and Sports for All congress opens in Minsk

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus and the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture are hosting the 25th international scientific congress "Olympic Sports and Sports for All", BelTA learned from the NOC press service.

The congress will be running through 17 October. This scientific forum has been held since 1993. The host of the next event is selected every year. The Belarusian State University of Physical Culture won the right to host the 2020 edition of the congress.

Belarus Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk stressed the importance of such events as he addressed the participants of the congress. “We are always open to a dialogue and are ready to become a platform for promoting sports. Introduction of modern technologies and exchange of best practices are the main goals of the congress. It is meant to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between researchers and will feature interesting presentations that will make participants of the forum familiar with fundamental R&D products,” Sergei Kovalchuk noted.

“The development of the Olympic movement in Belarus is supported at the government level. The congress is taking place in the Hall of Olympic Glory that displays achievements of famous athletes. I would like to note that today the Olympic movement needs a professional approach, and sports universities will facilitate this. The influence of the student movement on the processes in sport is becoming more and more considerable,” Russian Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin said.

The presentations to be held at the congress will have a practical use for the development of sport, President of the International Association of Physical Culture and Sport Universities Kairat Zakiryanov believes.
